Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington takes a look at David Lean's British work...

The Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, NY (Long Island) is having a small retrospective of David Lean’s British Films in January and early February. This series corresponds to the 100th birthday of Lean. The films: Brief Encounter, Great Expectations, In Which We Serve, Blithe Spirit and Oliver Twist. These films became calling cards for Lean to move to Hollywood and create such magnificent epics as Lawrence of Arabia and Pasage to India. These earlier films show the command and craftsmanship of Lean (who first worked as an editor of films such as Pygmalion) in its infancy. Especially fascinating is In Which We Serve with Noel Coward as one of the most unlikely (but effective) war heroes captured on celluloid.

Brief Encounter: Tue, Jan. 6 @7:30

Great Expectations: Tue, Jan. 13 @ 7:30

In Which We Serve: Tue, Jan. 20 @7;30

Blithe Spirit: Tue, Jan. 27 @7;30
